Dental implants are a cutting-edge solution for replacing missing teeth, or teeth needing extraction one or many or all, including full arch restoration. They can be an alternative to bridges and dentures, or simply having gaps. It consists of a biocompatible artifical root that integrates with the jawbone, providing a foundation for replacement teeth. At Skye Dental, all dental practitioners who provide implant treatments undertake additional training and continue to do so, to update their knowledge with current technology and techniques locally and internationally.

Single Dental Implants: When one tooth is missing, if there is enough bone, and you are a suitable candidate. The process involves a digital scan and CBCT for planning. Sometimes can be done at the same time as tooth removal, if a good candidate.
Multiple Dental Implants: This is an option when multiple teeth are missing. The implant or artificial root supports a crown or bridge to help restore the space where the tooth is missing or removed. Unlike dentures, implants are an option when you want something that is not a removable
All on ImplantsTM: If most of the teeth are missing or if there has a lot of dental decay, single implants may not be a suitable option. Full mouth implant treatments may be an option where four to six implants are placed in the jaw to support a full arch of replacement teeth. This is designed as an option instead of a full removable denture.
What is an Overdenture: This is a type of removable denture that clips and attaches to dental implants. They are custom made to fit your mouth.
Zirconia Implants vs. Ceramic Implants:
A metal free alternative to traditional implants can be discussed with your dentist. Titanium implants are typically the more frequently used implant choice.

Initial Consultation: During your first visit, our experienced dental team will conduct a thorough examination, including X-rays and possibly 3D imaging, to determine if dental implants are the right solution for you. We will discuss your medical history, oral health status, and treatment options to create a personalised plan tailored to your needs.
Tooth Extraction (if necessary): If there are any remaining tooth fragments or damaged teeth, they will be carefully extracted to prepare the area for the implant.
Implant Placement: The titanium implant is surgically placed into the jawbone under local anaesthesia. There is an option to be put to sleep via IV Sedation if requested.
Osseointegration Period: Over the next three to six months, the implant naturally bonds with the jawbone in a process called osseointegration, creating a solid foundation for the replacement tooth.
Abutment and Crown Placement: Once the implant has fully integrated and checked, an abutment (a small connector) is attached to the implant, and a custom-made crown is placed on top. This crown is designed to try to match the shape, size, and colour of your natural teeth, aiming for a seamless appearance.
